Having been mainly researched in recent years in Saxon Switzerland / Erzgebirge traces of the "Red Climber" and followed them, now 35 interested parties were welcomed in the Zittau Mountains. Of 26 to 28 April 2013 we wanted to deal with the illegal work of hikers here in the Zittau Mountains.
On the first evening we welcomed Eva Mendl, chairman of the Mauthausen Committee East eV. In 2010, she had found by chance her father's letters, which he - wrote after his arrest in 1940 from prisons, penitentiaries and the Mauthausen concentration camp to his mother and his brother. Through these letters she got to know her father again. Eva writes: "The most important person in my political education was my father. He fought as a member of the KPD in 1933 illegally fascism in Germany, was therefore arrested in 1940 by the Gestapo and tortured, sentenced in 1941 for treason to life imprisonment in 1943 abducted marked "return unwanted" concentration camp Mauthausen. "
Also we knew Eva's father, Johannes Müller, already from a report on a previous hike ( http://antifalausitz.sytes.net/?p=916 ). We remembered the attack on the lane 31: "On the 4th July 1935 were taken at Altenberg in an ambush Walter Richter and his associates Arthur Thiermann, Max and Hans Niklas Müller during the illegal crossing of borders with antifascist literature in the corridor 31st It was a betrayal Dresden middleman in the game. The fascists opened fire immediately, that those comrades responded with guns. They tried to retreat to the border, but only the comrade Hans Müller succeeded. The Comrade Walter Richter, Arthur Max Thiermann and Niklas were victims of the fascist murder bullets. "
Eva reported in two hours in the life of her father and about the illegal work. Stirred the interest of the anti-fascist people who are interested in the story, said: "The struggle against the fascist machinations must go on - Thanks for being there."
The walks
9 time clock started our first hike this weekend. The tour took us through the grove, the high forest, Scharfstein, and ultimately about the potter. The weather was wet and cold despite all the adversity on the topic. During our stop in the high forest hut was the situation in Upper Lusatia in the years 1930 - 33 informed, particularly on the difficult work of the KPD. How were people everywhere in the former German territory in Upper Lusatia persecuted by the Nazis, threatened, beaten up. However, the border area had the advantage for the illegal anti-fascist work, that it was unclear and therefore difficult to control. As pamphlets came across the Czech border to Germany, or persecuted were brought across the border to safety.
The afternoon has been identified in a further lecture on the situation at that time in the Czechoslovak Republic. So it happened again and again to attacks by the "Sudeten Germans" on the Czechoslovak minority. This came to a head until 1938 and continues to lead eventually to open in September 1938 attacks on border defense position of the Czechoslovak customs authorities.
After about 15 kilometers has been moved to the tracks of the "Red Climber", was presented to us the history of this mountain hikers in the evening. The Chairman of the Association Pirnaer AKuBiZ, Steffen Richter, stated this:
"The United climbing department (MCA), also known as Red mountaineer, founded as a Saxon national association of tourist association" Friends of Nature ". The MCA was a resistance group in Germany in the period of National Socialism, which was made up from the ranks of the labor movement, the nature of friends and was particularly active in the Saxon Switzerland and the Ore Mountains. The United climbing department was founded in the twenties as a covenant left mountaineer, where the athletic championship Bezwingens difficult summit and the proverbial mountain camaraderie were just as important as the political struggle against all reactionaries, and especially against the looming threat of a fascist dictatorship. Many Red climbers were members of the Communist Party. "With a fantastic fireworks show this evening with songs from sounding.
For Sunday, the members of Tamara Bunke Association had organized a walking trail around the village Walter. First we went to the police station and were able to see the history and imagine the events in 1938, pictorially there. Near the border crossing of Walter village to Horni Svetla is a monument that commemorates the defense of Czechoslovakia.
Listen at the foot of the pass we went over Herrenwalde to Dolni Podluzi. Near the overpass on the road to Varnsdorf is the monument of the financial Guard members in January Teichmann and Václav Kozel, on 22 September 1938 was shot during a robbery of the Sudeten German irregulars

Scandalous handling of the Mayor of Zittau and some city councilors
A word about the scandalous handling of the Mayor of Zittau, Arndt Voigt (Free citizens Zittau) and Zittau some city councils.
At the beginning of 2013 the club had asked Tamara Bunke according to the organization funding the town of Zittau an application for financial support of the hiking weekend.
In the March meeting of the Social Committee, and subsidies from € 230 was decided against the voice of the Lord Mayor.
In response, the NPD Zittau reported Councillor flimsy to speak and forced a re-treatment in the social committee. The Government in persona of the main department heads Thomas Mauer man asked for the April meeting of the Committee set aside the decision taken because the club was not Tamara Bunke-profit organization. This is not necessary, according to the Association Funding Guidelines.
In the discussion on Decision City Council Gullus stated (attached) that he has no political grave fighting between left - also with a view to - with a view to, invited to the meeting by the social committee chairman of Tamara Bunke Association, Ramona Gehring - and right present wife Hiekisch (NPD), may. It is precisely this danger he sees as the content of the hike is very political.
Councillor Matthias Böhm (Alliance 90/The Greens) saw no cause for cancellation of the decision already taken. He saw the work on this topic as important.
Councillor Walkenstein (Free citizens Zittau) had concerns about the guidelines for club promotion. He suggested to advise whether a principle that no political clubs may be encouraged, should be included in the guidelines for club promotion. He also concurred with the comments made by Councillor Gullus.
Councillor Dr. Soukup (FDP + FUW) had major concerns about the "red climber." Councillor Mrs Kluttig (CDU) agreed with Councillor Dr. Soukup.
Ultimately, the combined Decision was repealed in March. Two councilors,
Matthias Boehm (Alliance 90/The Greens) and Rainer Harbarth (The Left Party) voted against the repeal of the decision. Gullus City Council (NI) abstained, all other members voted for the repeal.
Here, the councilors, the mayor and Mr. Mauer man must ask whether they make themselves the backers of a Councillor, the party should be banned aspirations of the Bundesrat. Otherwise it may be asked whether anything was learned from the older as recent history?
